In 2025, Pearson Engineering was engaged by the Town of Caledon to carry out inspections of their non-OSIM culvert and retaining wall structures on their roadway and trail systems to support long-term asset management and infrastructure planning. The scope of work included the visual inspection and data collection for 1,500+ structures. Inspections were carried out following the procedures and guidelines outlined in the MTO Culvert Inspection Guide for culverts less than 3000mm, which included the implementation of the Culvert Rating Index (CRI). An excel database was developed to document the condition of each structure, identifying maintenance or rehabilitation needs, recommending construction schedules, calculating CRI values, and providing replacement cost estimates. The Town’s GIS database was updated to include the geodetic locations of each structure.
